THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE UPON THE POOL!
We were in Florida, the Cosmans and I, vacationing in a very nice rented house. Besides the beautiful inside, there was a wonderful pool in the back. It is hard to believe that so many people have in-ground pools down there! This one was one of the nicest I had ever seen.
Autumn and Jesse were at home in the water. They dove for colored rings at the bottom and swam back and forth. Much of our time down there, they were splashing around having a grand time.
But Seth was still hanging around the shallow water for the most part. As the days went by, he began to explore the deeper water while clinging to the side of the pool. Then he became brave enough to be out there on a little inner tube.
One day, he situated himself on a noodle, straddling it like a horse. He was having a good time. I was very nervous because as he splashed about in that deep water, little by little he was moving forward on the noodle. I knew that if he slid off of it, he would go down. I stood by the side of the pool and did not take my eyes off of him.
Sure enough, he finally just gently slid into the water and down he went. "There he goes," I hollered. I made a move to jump in, Autumn tried to get to him, but it was Ginger that sprang into effective action. In a flash, like something I have never seen before, she was up from where she had been sitting a little ways away from the pool, ran along the side and dove in...a perfect life saving dive...and grabbed Seth. She took him to the side and began the mom thing where you assure your child that everything is okay. She praised him. "Seth! I saw you. Your were moving your arms! You were doing the right thing!"
He was shook up but with the help and input of all, he was soon out in the water, none the worse for his ordeal.
I went to my room. I laid on my bed for a while and cried, shaken up a bit. As I worked at settling down, the Lord brought the verse that is at the top of this page to mind. He reminded me of the truth that He is watching me continually. He never takes His eyes off of me and He always listens for my cry. He sees me slipping off the noodle and knows I'm going to be in trouble before it happens and He is right there to put out His hand. Remember Peter? As he began to sink, Jesus put out His hand and lifted Him up.
My whole being was intent on keeping my eye on Seth for I saw potential trouble. How much more our great God who sees and knows everything and watches over us in love. Yes, the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous no matter where they are...even in the pool!
