GOD OF COMFORT
II Cor. 1:4
Amazing how God repeatedly reveals Himself as the God of compassion. KJV says “mercies” but NIV says “compassion.” There is no keeping back the tears as I read just the beginning of this verse. All through the Old Testament, we find the great people speaking of the compassion of God. Always when we see God’s judgment, it is coupled with or followed by compassion. He cares deeply for us. We underestimate that, partly because it is a concept or truth hard for us to grasp, but partly as well because we simply have not traced it for ourselves in the Scriptures.
Compassion, for me, is a precious gift when I experience it from anyone, but it is very deeply appreciated when the Great Almighty God offers it to me. I love that He has shown Himself to us, to me, in many ways. There is blessing in digging deep into the names, the attributes and character of God and I am quieted in the pain of life when I see another reminder that He is a God of compassion. Something whelms up within me remembering that He has been compassionate with me and will continue to be so down the road.
God is the God of comfort. How does one grasp such a thought. The Mighty Creator comforts us in all our troubles! I think that I will pay more careful attention to it next time I’m “in trouble.”
God comforts us and then assigns the task of comforting others who are “in any trouble.” I had better pay closer attention to God’s example and take lessons from Him so that I can be a comforter to others. He desires that we take a deliberate step to touch people caringly when they are in “any trouble.” What God has done for us in the hour of need must be translated into the predicaments and valleys of those around us.
Take time to study the comfort of God in Bible history in order to bless others effectively. What has He done to make His comfort known to you? What is comfort? Make it a study and then, comfort others.
